Editorial – Ed. 69

For the Subject Review Section we have chosen a thematic selection, i. e., the oral session dedicated to pediatric endocrinology (OR#14) of the 100th Meeting of the Endocrine Society, Chicago, USA, March 17-20, 2018. Titles of this session were as follows: MON181: Prevalence of Medical Comorbidities and Trajectory of Gender-Related Medical Interventions Among Youth Aged 5-21 Presenting with Gender Dysphoria: A Community Based Study. MON 182: Characterization of a Large Cohort of Subjects with Disorders of Sex Development Admitted to a Single Pediatric Hospital. MON 183: Copy Number Variants (CNV) in Syndromic Patients with Disorders of Sex Development. MON 184: DEAH-box Helicase 37 Defects Are a Novel Cause of 46,XY Gonadal Dysgenesis and Embryonic Regression Testicular Syndrome (ERTS). MON185: The Assessment of Parent-Reported Outcomes in Conditions Affecting Sex Development in the Routine Clinic Setting. MON186: Growth Hormone Therapy Improves Final Height in Individuals with 45,X/46,X,+Y Variants Disorders of Sex Development (DSD).

In addition, the following oral presentations were also included: OR33-2: Unbiased Genome-wide Analyses Reveal Insulin Receptor Recruitment to Novel Genomic Sites in Pancreatic Islets. OR02-1: Kisspeptin and Kisspeptin Receptor May Be Involved in the Regulation of Adrenocortical Development and Steroid Hormone Secretion.

For the Bibliographic Review Section we have selected six recent publications: 1) Bilateral Adrenalectomy in Congenital Adrenal Hyperplasia. A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis by MacKay D et al, 2) Altered MicroRNA Profile in Osteoporosis Caused by Impaired WNT Signaling by Riikka E et al. 3) Surgical Outcomes in Patients with Cushing’s disease: the Cleveland Clinic experience, by Johnston PC, 4) Treatment Options for Hirsutism: A Systematic Review and Network Meta-Analysis by Barrionuevo P et al. 5) Heterozygous Mutations in Natriuretic Peptide Receptor-B (NPR2) Gene as a Cause of Short Stature. Finally, we recommend our readers, once more, to attend the next 57th Annual Meeting of the European Society of Pediatric Endocrinology, to convene in Athens, Greece, September 27-29, 2018. The theme of the meeting will be “Narrative and Precision Medicine in Paediatric Endocrinology”. The venue is the Athens Megaron Conference Centre, which is conveniently situated in central Athens.
